Q&A Series: Types of pumps suitable for mine sites

Mine sites demand durability and reliability above all else for critical equipment such as pumps. Besides this, it is important that these pumps can handle the arduous nature of the pumped liquid.

With a wide variety of pumps available for mine sites, deciding which one is right for your application can be challenging.

In this blog, we chat with our specialised Project's Team to identify the different types of mine pumps available and what applications they are most suitable for.

Global Pumps recommend the following pumps for mine sites:

Slurry Pumps

Slurry pumps are specifically built to handle the highly abrasive, high-density nature of slurries. Depending on the brand, slurry pumps maintain high efficiencies over the wear life of their components. There are a wide range of construction materials for maximum abrasion and corrosion resistance to suit various demanding mine site applications.

SlurryPro Slurry Pump

The SlurryPro series offer operators a completely different customer-centric user experience. Designed for continuous pumping of abrasive and high-density slurries, the SlurryPro Series is low maintenance, durable and reliable. Rubber and metal-lined pumps are available, with split casing for easy maintenance. To ensure greater chemical resistance, liners are available in different materials.

Available in a horizontal or vertical construction, there is a SlurryPro pump for your mine site!

Peristaltic Hose Pumps

Peristaltic hose pumps are suitable for pumping liquids containing sands and other slurries with a high amount of particulate matter, or viscous fluids. Features of most hose pumps include accurate and repeatable dosing, low maintenance and energy efficiency.

Verderflex Peristaltic Hose Pump

Verderflex offer the longest lasting hose of any peristaltic hose pump brand - allowing operators to rest easy knowing their product is durable and reliable.

The Verderflex range of peristaltic hose pumps are a popular choice for corrosive and abrasive slurries and chemical reagent dosing. With a wide variety of sizes available, including the largest high pressure hose pump in the world, the Verderflex peristaltic hose pump can reach flow rates up to 180 L/hr.

Magnetic Drive Pumps

Mag-drive pumps are a leak-free centrifugal pump, suitable for corrosive or hazardous chemicals, including those that are dirty, aggressive, solids laden liquids. One of the most important features of magnetic drive pumps is the fact that they are sealed from the drive end and the driving power is transmitted via magnetic force using powerful synchronous magnetics (magnetic coupling). This construction offers leak-free, safe operation when handling dangerous liquids.

Techniflo Magnetic Drive Pump

Techniflo designed the first mag-drive pump in the world to offer a thurst balanced magnetic capsule assembly which enables it to handle up to a 30% concentration of slurry.

The Techniflo mag-drive series offers operators non-metallic wetted parts, guaranteeing outstanding corrosion resistance. Besides this, they are capable of flows up to 300m3/hr and heads up to 100m. These mag-drive pumps can handle liquid temperatures up to 120oC. Techniflo magnetic drive pumps are constructed for heavy-duty applications and are suitable for contaminated liquids and solids - ideal for the nature of mine sites.

Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps

AOD pumps, sometimes referred to as pneumatic diaphragm pumps, are reciprocating pumps which provide a leak-free pumping option for tough, mine site applications. Depending on the type of liquid or slurry being pumped, there are a variety of materials of construction to ensure chemical compatibility as well as reliability and durability.

Verderair Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps

Verderair air operated diapraghm pumps offer operators the most efficient air valve.

The Verderair AOD pump range is available in either non-metallic and metallic versions - suitable for some of the harshest and challenging pump applications. Depending on the product being pumped, these AOD pumps are available in polypropylene, conductive polypropylene, PVDF, acetal, aluminum, cast iron and stainless steel 316.

These Verderair pumps are self-priming, dry running, rugged construction and are externally serviceable. The Verderair series also offer externally serviceable air distribution systems, making these pumps easy to fix.
