TRASH PUMPS

Trash Pumps

Trash pumps are designed to move heavy and viscous fluids containing abrasive solids. There are a variety of sizes and high head options available, as well as heavy duty and high-pressure constructions.

Features of the Global Pumps Trash Pump include:

  • sizes range from 2″ to 8″
  • operates over a range of speeds allowing multiple duty points
  • substantial bearings and drive shaft
  • removable oil filled rotating assembly

WORKING PRINCIPLE

Trash Pumps are designed to move heavy and viscous fluids containing abrasive solids. They are typically constructed to be heavy-duty pieces of machinery that require hardened wearing parts.

Most trash pumps are a centrifugal pump type - they rely on a rotating impeller immersed in the pumped liquid to increase its velocity.

As the liquid moves from the impeller vanes, it moves into a volute casing that converts the high velocity into high pressure (head) as it exits the pump. The high pressure enables the liquid to overcome elevation, friction, and pressure requirements of the system.

Some Trash Pumps are suitable for submerged operation. These pumps sit submerged in the pumped fluid and are directly attached to a motor that can operate in fluid.

APPLICATIONS

Trash pumps can be incorporated in the following applications:

  • steel industry
  • paper mills
  • mines
  • abattoirs
  • food and chemical processing
  • dewatering
  • trade waste
  • sewage handling

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Global Pumps offer a wide variety of trash pumps suitable for multiple tough applications.

Heavy Duty Trash Pumps

The heavy duty trash pumps available are self-priming and are considered a sensible solution for industry and municipalities requiring little maintenance, resulting in significant savings of time and money. These heavy-duty trash pumps have a much greater volume in the pump bowl chamber - enabling the pump to reprime in an open system. These pumps are fitted with a two-vane semi-open impeller and self-aligning, oil lubricated mechanical seal specifically designed for industrial service.

The cover plate and wear plate are removable, keeping entry time to the pump casing to a minimum, without disconnecting the piping. Internal components can be accessed through the cover plate opening for inspection or service.

The range of heavy-duty trash pumps can be powered by electric, diesel or gasoline engine, flex-coupled or V-belt driven.

Hi-Pressure Trash Pumps

Global Pumps offer high-pressure trash pumps, specially designed to operate over a wide range of speeds, thus achieving various duty points. The high-pressure trash pumps feature:

  • large volume displacement to allow reprime in an open system
  • ability to handle air, overcoming vapour handling problems common in conventional centrifugal pumps
  • solids handling multi-vane impeller
  • self-aligning oil lubricated mechanical seal
  • substantial bearings and drive shaft
  • removable oil filled rotating assembly
  • removable inspection cover provides quick access to a pump interior

These high-pressure trash pumps are available as bare shaft pumps for replacement of existing equipment, or as complete pump sets powered by electric, diesel or gasoline engines.
